Brown hares are famous for their impressive speed, running up to 70 km/h (45 mph) to evade predators, a trait made possible by their long, powerful hind legs. They differ from rabbits by living above ground in shallow scrapes called "forms" and having young, known as leverets, born fully furred and with open eyes.
