The Shih Tzu is a breed of dog from Tibet. The Maltese, on the other hand, originates from places located around the central Mediterranean. Both breeds of dog are very lively and intelligent. 

The coat is a particularly prominent feature of both the Maltese and the Shih Tzu. Both breeds of dog can grow coats so long that they touch the ground. Which is why dogs of these breeds need to be combed regularly to stop the fur from tangling.
