The Protoceratops was a small herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. One of its most prominent features was its large frill, a characteristic of the ceratopsian family. But unlike its larger relatives, like Triceratops, the Protoceratops didn't have large horns; instead, it had a stout beak and cheek teeth suitable for grinding plants. Despite its smaller size, the Protoceratops played a significant role in our understanding of dinosaurs and their eggs, as the first scientifically documented dinosaur eggs were found in a Protoceratops nesting ground.
