The Thylacine, often known as the Tasmanian Tiger, was a carnivorous marsupial native to Tasmania, Australia, and New Guinea. Despite its common name, the Thylacine was not a tiger but was named for the bold, stripe pattern on its back, which resembled that of a tiger.
The last known Thylacine died in a zoo in Hobart, Tasmania, in 1936, marking the official extinction of this unique creature. Unlike other marsupials, female Thylacines had a pouch that opened to the rear, providing a safe and warm environment for their young, known as joeys.
