The Medusaceratops was a type of ceratopsian dinosaur, the group that includes the famous Triceratops. Living during the Late Cretaceous period, what makes the Medusaceratops unique is its frill. Rather than sporting large, threatening horns like many of its relatives, the Medusaceratops had a frill adorned with large, hook-like projections.
The dinosaur's name, Medusaceratops, translates to "Medusa horned face", referencing the Greek mythological figure Medusa who had snakes in place of hair. While the Medusaceratops didn't have snakes on its head, the hook-like projections on its frill resembled the writhing snakes of Medusa, leading to its fascinating and rather dramatic name.
