Camargue cattle are raised in semi-wild conditions in the wetlands of France by herders known as guardians who are generally mounted on small white Camargue horses. Camargue bulls are prized as part of a bloodless bullfighting called Course camarguaise in which the objective is to snatch a rosette from the head of a young bull.
