The Stegosaurus is famous for the large, bony plates along its back and its four sharp spikes on its tail, often called the thagomizer. While many illustrations show these plates being used as armor or for defense, some scientists believe they might have also played a role in temperature regulation or even display to attract a mate. Despite its fierce appearance, the Stegosaurus was a herbivore, munching on prehistoric plants!
