Many Nokota horses wear a striking blue roan coat, a smoky, steel-blue color that’s unusually common in this breed. Shaped by the rugged North Dakota Badlands, they’re naturally sure-footed and hardy, and their lineage traces to Colonial Spanish horses preserved from historic wild herds near today’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
