While the sawfish might be easily mistaken for a type of shark because of its fearsome, elongated snout lined with sharp teeth, it's actually a type of ray! Just like stingrays, sawfish have flat bodies and gills located on their undersides. Their distinctive "saw" or rostrum isn't just for show – they use it to detect, disturb, and even capture prey. But despite their intimidating appearance, they are generally harmless to humans.
