The term "American Buffalo" is a bit of a misnomer. What people often refer to as the "American Buffalo" are actually bison, specifically the American bison. One fascinating fact is that while they once roamed North America in vast herds numbering in the millions, by the late 1800s, they were nearly driven to extinction due to hunting and habitat loss. However, conservation efforts in the 20th century have seen their numbers rise, and today, bison are making a comeback, with many living in national parks and reserves.
