Newfoundland dogs are known for their excellent swimming abilities and were originally bred as working dogs to help fishermen retrieve nets and catch fish in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. Their webbed feet, water-resistant coat, and strong swimming skills make them perfectly suited to this task. In fact, some Newfoundlands have been known to save people from drowning by swimming out to them and bringing them safely back to shore!
