Poitou Donkeys are a breed of domesticated donkey that are known for their long, shaggy coats. They were once used in France to produce mules, which are the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse. These mules were highly valued for their strength and ability to work in tough agricultural conditions, and were exported throughout Europe. Today, the Poitou Donkey is considered a rare breed and is protected by various breeding programs.
