The horned lizard is docile reptile found throughout North America, and is sometimes colloquially referred to as the horned toad or the horned frog. It earned these nicknames due to its round body and head, which at a distance can resemble a toad of frog.

History:

The spikes of the horned lizard may look intimidating, but they aren’t actually sharp. Instead, they’re used to prevent water loss through the skin. However, the horns on its head are true horns, which means they have an accompanying bone structure. The horned lizard is very easy to catch due to its slow-moving nature. Its primary defense mechanism is its excellent camouflage, which it relies on almost entirely in order to avoid predators.
